During the off season this year I did some backpacking in Eastern Europe.  I have been to that region a few times, and for this trip my curiosity led me to all the countries in that area which are last on peoples' list to visit.

In 25 days of traveling I ended up exploring nine countries, some more interesting than others.  I've decided to include my best picture from each country.

Estonia: While this picture doesn't really capture the essence of Estonia, it certainly gives a close up of their national cuisine.  Blood sausage, which is a sausage link made from fresh blood and wrapped in pig intestine.  And that's exactly what it tasted like.

Latvia: East meets west. Here's an example of a beautiful Latvian architecture in the small town of Sigulda.  And here's me, Americanizing the landscape by throwing up gang signs and being obnoxious.

Lithuania: I could show you exquisite Russian temples or grand opera halls, but instead I've chosen the (only?) Frank Zappa memorial.  No, it's not a joke.

Ukraine: Ukraine being one of the hardest countries to travel through, I thought I'd select an image that would help describe my frustration.  This is the train timetable and not one English speaker in the entire station, trust me, I checked.

Moldova: Being that I didn't really know Moldova existed as a country until I realized I had to pass through it, I'm just choosing a picture at random with the confidence that no matter what, you'll go away with more knowledge of Moldova than you previously had.

Romania: I really enjoyed Romania and I have nothing sarcastic to say about it.  Being from a ski town however, I couldn't pass up the opportunity to use this picture.

Macedonia: While not exactly like the shoe room basement of the Ute Mountaineer; I think they, too, experienced overflow issues with their inventory.

Kosovo: While many things can be said for Kosovo, I chose this picture because I found it even more hilarious than the intersecting street called: Bob Dole.

Bulgaria: I couldn't conclude this trip report without at least one picture of a church.  The entire region is extremely religious with more churches and temples than we have Starbucks.  This one in particular is the famous Aleksander Nevksi Church of Sofia, Bulgaria...and that's about as far as my research got me.
