Black Diamond, Aspen Alpine Guides, and the Ute Mountaineer teamed up to sponsor a Women's Hut Trip to the McNamara Hut.  Deb Kelly from Aspen Alpine Guides was our leader and taught everything one needs to know to plan a hut trip---from staying warm to cooking delicious meals.  While it might have been one of the coldest Saturdays this season (it was 10 degrees Fahrenheit mid-day!), we had gorgeous blue skies and warmer weather on Sunday for a short tour.  Thanks to Tara, Jessica, and Lauren for the great photos!!

Lauren and Kim are geared up and ready to go at the trailhead.  Everyone was eager to get moving, mostly in order to warm up in the cold weather.

Kim and Tara pose for one last photo at the trailhead.

All of the 10th Mountain Huts have blue diamonds to serve as trail markers between the trailhead and the hut, but they can be snow-covered and not always readily visible.  While helpful, they don't take the place of a map and compass.  Here's Lauren pointing to a snowy blue diamond with Kim and Deb smiling in the background.

Deb Kelly has been a professional guide for many years, and we were lucky to have her as our leader.  Her knowledge, expertise, and sense of fun made the trip a success.

Chris and Megan arrive to the hut ready to warm up with hot chocolate and a blazing fire.

After a delicious dinner of pasta with smoked salmon and spinach, we played a spirited game of Pictionary---every woman for herself.

The Pictionary players, from left to right, were Kat, Lauren, Anne, Kim, Sarah, and Megan.  We got a bit carried away, and Kim counted over 100 rounds at the end of the night.

To ensure that the next group has a full supply of kindling, one of the closing chores at each hut is to replenish the kindling containers by each stove. Here is Kim getting ready to chop some wood.  Tara spent the most time swinging the axe, but unfortunately no one snapped a photo.

Sunday morning we ventured up Bald Knob to check out the snow and take some turns.

All of the smiles are a testament to the beautiful day and fresh powder.

Another photo from a gorgeous morning...

Here's the group ready to head home.  Thank you to everyone for coming out for (hopefully!) a first annual event.  Many thanks to Deb Kelly and Scott Messina of Aspen Alpine Guides and to Steve Kropf of Black Diamond for making this happen.
