'Tuesday Nights at the
Ute'
On the third Tuesday night of the month the Ute Mountaineer is
presenting a new series of slide shows, speakers & clinics. We were very
excited to start the Series on March 17th with a presentation by Bob Perlmutter and
Murray Cunningham on the "Life of a Backcountry Ski Guide' Bob and
Murray have been the managers of the Aspen Mountain Powder Tours that
operates on Aspen Mountain. Their presentation was part history, part
daily operations, and part equipment. Along with some of the tall tales
from the backcountry.
In April we will be hosting
Peter Bronski a Colorado Colorado-based
author, backcountry skier and climber. Peter's latest book came out
last fall and is called Powder Ghost Towns: Epic Backcountry Turns in
Colorado’s Lost Ski Resorts. It’s one part history, one part
backcountry skiing guidebook. Peter will have copies of his book
available the night of his talk.
In June and July we have
John Gill and Ted Mahon respectively. John Gill is the father of modern
bouldering and Ted Mahon just completed a adventure on Ama Dablam. Watch
for the flyers around town and visit our website for more information.
All of
the Tuesday night events are free and open to the public. They start at
7pm upstairs at the Ute Mountaineer 308 S. Mill St. If you would like to
receive information on our events please send an email to:

Snowshoe Clinic
December 16, 2008 the Ute Mountaineer and Erik Skarvan of 'Sun Dog
Athletics' teamed up to present a FREE clinic on "Snowshoeing for
Fitness". The clinic covered all the basics to get into America's
fastest growing winter sport. New skills, nutrition & hydration, the
latest in Atlas snowshoes, proper clothing and accessories, places in
the Aspen area to snowshoe along with training with snowshoes was
discussed. A hearty group of attendees listened to Erik and
watched a short video on snowshoeing. After the presentation by Erik
there was a prize giveaway.
