Scoring Guidelines
Scoring: “Reverse starter scoring” will be used for each race. Points will be awarded based on the number of starters in the event. First place will be given the number of points equal that of the number of starters and so on down to last place finisher receiving one point. Eg., 20 starters equals 20 points for the first finisher and 1 point for the last finisher. Full points will be awarded for the longest race of that event, and shorter race will receive half points. Juniors only races of 3K will receive 1/3rd points . Owl Creek Chase Classic Race receives full points for 30K, half points for 15K and 1/3rd points for the 5K. If four distances are at a race, the shortest distance will not be awarded points. Relay races will be based on total number of participants (not teams) and each member of a team will receive equal points, with the next place receiving 2 less points (Ex: 48 racers, 24 teams: 1st place receives 48 points each, 2nd place receives 46 points each, etc). Each event points total will be added to determine overall points. You can only receive points for one race per event – which will be defaulted to the longer event completed if more than one race is completed. To qualify for an overall place in the series an individual must compete in at least 3 races of any distance. Overall points will be used to determine overall place and age group/gender places. The single best overall combined male and female will have their names inscribed on the permanent Ute Cup trophy. The top 3 age group/gender points leaders will receive customized medals at the end of the ski season. Age groups are U10, U14, U20, 21-49, Masters 50+.
