COSAR Cards
(Colorado Outdoor Recreation Search & Rescue)
Information
~75% of the revenue from the sale of CORSAR cards contributes to the Colorado Search and Rescue Fund. The Fund helps support Search & Rescue (SAR) teams across the state. Many SAR teams are staffed primarily by volunteers who offer their time, services, and equipment to rescues, free of charge.
If SAR teams in Pitkin County are dispatched to aid someone who has purchased a CORSAR card, those teams can be reimbursed by the State for costs incurred during the rescue. The CORSAR Fund also helps pay for equipment/supplies and SAR team member training courses & certifications.
A CORSAR card is NOT insurance. Medical costs and medical transport during or following a rescue are not covered under the CORSAR Fund and will be the responsibility of the person being rescued.
Colorado SAR teams will be dispatched to help rescue a person regardless of whether or not they have purchased a CORSAR card.
It is not necessary for purchaser to have their CORSAR card present during a rescue.
CORSAR cards are not transferable.
