45th Annual Basalt Half-Marathon & Relay to be held Saturday June 4, 2022

Scenic race course is one of the most stunning in Colorado

ASPEN SNOWMASS, Colo.—Mar. 30, 2022—The 45th Annual Basalt half-marathon and relay is scheduled for June 4, 2022. The 13.1 mile race is open to individual racers and two-person relay teams (6.1 & 7 miles).

The race starts 13.1 miles up Basalt’s scenic Frying Pan road that parallels the Frying Pan River, home to gold medal fly-fishing. After a ¼ mile start on a dirt road, the racers descend approximately 1,000 feet in elevation along the paved road with clearly marked mile markers and finish in downtown Basalt at Lion’s Park.

According to race organizer Ron Lund, “The race course is widely considered to be one of the most beautiful and racer-friendly runs in all of Colorado. The gentle downhill slope of the road allows for some exceptionally fast run times.”

The morning of the race buses will depart Lion’s Park in downtown Basalt at 7 am and shuttle the runners to their start lines for a 7:45 am race start. There will be three aid stations along the course.

Online registration is open thru www. active.com. Registration forms can be downloaded and mailed in via www.basalthalfmarathon.com. Race-day registration will be held from 6:15 am to 7 am at Lion’s Park.  Entry fee for individuals is $75 prior to race day, $80 on race day. Relay team  (2 racers) entry fee is $100 prior to race, $130 on race day.

The top three finishers in each age group will receive awards. Age group awards will be as follows: 19 & under, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60-69, 70 & over. Relay awards will be given to the top male team, top female team and top coed team.

All proceeds benefit the Basalt High School (BHS) Cross Country team which has seen great strides in the past few years thanks to the coaching leadership of father-daughter duo Ron Lund and Amy Lund Rollins. Most recently, junior Katelyn Maley won the women’s 3A 2021 state cross country meet, and junior Ava Lane secured a top 10 (8th place) finish.

Race organizers are seeking volunteers and sponsors, interested parties can contact Ron Lund.
